| This species was first discovered and introduced by the Portilla brothers - Mario and Jose. It was initially called Portillae popoviana - a new genera because of some distinct features. It was later identified and included within the Masdevallia genera by Leuer. This species was found in a hot region of Ecuador, where the temperature range is 95 degree days and 70 degree nights. It has a distinctive barbed hirsute inflorescence. | |
